Developing Toronto’s Basketball Strategy

Toronto’s Local Basketball Has A New Champion

Councillor Thompson is leading a City-wide effort to coordinate and grow community-based basketball across the Toronto.

In 2014, the Councillor introduced a motion to City Council which directed the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division to bring together Toronto’s basketball community to develop a new “Basketball Development Plan” for the City. Community stakeholders approached include Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Toronto District School Board, Basketball Canada, The Toronto Raptor Foundation, the Basketball Leadership Academy (BLA), Ontario Basketball Association (OBA), MLSE and others.

The Basketball Development Plan (BDP) aims to build the capacity and sustainability of community-based basketball programs across Toronto and to promote accessible opportunities for all residents to participate in recreational basketball.
